ABOUT US

OUR STORY

Welcome to Baggie's, my name is Ella. My partner Mark and I moved to Singapore in 2016. Baggie's first came to be because we couldn't get quality biltong in Singapore, something we used to enjoy a lot when we were living in London. Neither Mark or I had a background in food, we had both been working in IT management jobs. Despite this we made our first ever batch of biltong in 2017 at our friends restaurant, and it turned out great, like really great!!

I remember walking back to our condo having just tried our first ever batch of biltong. I was babbling on about how great it was, and that we should start a business. I even named the business Baggie's Biltong right there.

From there we started making regularly for ourselves and our other biltong loving friends on the island. Due to the great feedback, and how busy we got making our biltong, we did indeed decide that we should open a store and have a crack at our own F&B business. A few months later we opened our first shop at the Fortune Centre on Middle road.

Funny story, Fortune Centre happens to be a largely vegetarian food mall. It didn't seem to matter though. Our tiny and practical, but not aesthetically pleasing store got very busy.

We had expanded our range of cured meats, and started selling staple fresh meats, including making speciality sausages such as boerewors, another South African favourite.

Towards the end of 2020 we had fully outgrown Fortune Centre and found a great new store at 236 Joo Chiat road. We moved in April 2021 and much to my delight, got to spend a bit of hard earned biltong cash on making the store a little bit prettier than the last one!

We've got lots more space now and have been able to expand all of our ranges further. We now have plenty of South African wines, a great range of South African small batch gins, lots more cured meats and fresh meats, and a great range of both deli and pantry items.

WHY WE ARE HERE
